Sunsets, Blueberries, Festivals & FireworksLife can come at you so fast that sunrises blur into sunsets before you have time to notice. But not at the Carriage House. Life slows down for our guests in friendly South Haven. Each night, vivid oranges, reds, and yellows of the setting sun, glow in contrast to an endless horizon of crystal blue water. Every sunset we see, stirs something within us. And when we look back at them, we relive the memories.

Choose an interesting location – You can just walk across the street, down to the lighthouse, or head to Monroe Park, one of our favorite spots. Find a foreground - A shot of a fiery sky all by itself isn’t half as exciting as a sailboat silhouetted in front of that sky. So find an interesting outline set against the sky or reflecting water. Possibly a tree, even just a branch, people can add depth and a sense of scale. Get there early – You never know when the best and most beautiful light is going to happen. Usually in a one-minute window, which can be anytime within 15 minutes before or 25 minutes after sunset. Wait around – Sometimes the most spectacular lighting happens a short while after the sun has set (afterglow). Clouds are magic to sunsets – The way the light beams through, or reflects off these changing formations is wonderful. Low clouds look powerful and foreboding. Since they are lower, they light up the sky about 10 minutes after sunset, as long as it is clear over the horizon. High wispy clouds are graceful and delicate and light up the sky 30 minutes after sunset. For more in depth information on |
