With it’s laid back, slow cadence it’s easy to fall into the intoxicating rhythm of spring at the Carriage House at the Harbor, South Haven Michigan. Last year was gorgeous as they always are. Early showers scrub the air, leaving it awash in sunlight. David and I love to shed our coats, take long walks watching the flowers and trees bloom. 
The Carriage House was honored with a visit from Mark and Sue Chatterly in February. Chatterley's small to large-scale sculptures, all in clay, feature abstracted and beautiful bodies, their surfaces bubbled and pitted with primordial fire. His work is held in private and public collections in the United States and all over the world. Mark was recently featured in a PBS Special.
Besides being an innkeeper David is a published author. Based on stories he shared with his children, he has written The Adventures of Peanuts, Popcorn, Chestnuts and Tootles. It is an adorable book about 4 monkeys. It’s available here at the inn or on
